How Will We Support You?
If you have a statement, LDA or one of the new Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP) and you are considering a place at Easton & Otley College, please let us know, so we can put the correct support in place for you before you start on your course.
When you fill in the application form there is a question asking if you have previously had support. Please tick this box and we will make sure that a member of the Learning Support team is at your interview to discuss how you like to be supported.
We offer small group support in class and on a one to one basis. This can be discreet if you prefer it not to be obvious that you are receiving support. Out of lesson support can also be accessed during study sessions.
Support is also available with; personal care, supervised lunch and break times, getting to and from taxis and buses and pastoral support. In addition the College also has an onsite counsellor.
These meetings are to discuss your individual support needs. These may include visits to see you at your current educational setting, meeting your parents/carers, attending EHCP transitions and reviews and liaising with external agencies.
You may have already visited the College with your school or attended one of our Course Advice Days, if you would prefer to look around on a quieter day with just your parents or carers then it can be arranged by talking to Jo or Sandra using the above contact details.
To make sure that you feel comfortable at your new College, you will be invited to our Transition Days. This is where you can meet your Course Tutor, the Learner Mentors who may be working with you, students in your new class and the other support staff that are there to help you. We will take you on tours during these days so you begin to know your way around.
We have home/college diaries so we can keep in touch with parents and carers too. The Course Tutors, Team Leaders in support and the SENCO team are all available by phone or email to share information or update and review support needs. Please keep in touch!
All students learn in different ways so our lessons are planned to make sure that you have the best learning experience at Easton & Otley College. The TEACCH method is also used in classes where students may benefit from this very visual and individual approach.
Whilst enjoying learning about new exciting subjects you will also have the opportunity to improve on those all-important English and Maths skills and continue to gain further qualifications.
