English & Maths

All of our courses include English and maths; this can be promoted within your chosen vocational area i.e. the English and maths skills required to be successful on the course. If you are under the age of 19 and do not have a GCSE C/4 grade, or higher, in English and/or maths you must continue to study these subjects until you achieve a minimum of a C/4 grade or reach the age of 19. The college encourages all students who do not have a grade C/4 in English and maths, regardless of their age, to continue developing their English and/or maths skills until they achieve the C/4 grade.

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment for English and maths to enable us to enrol you onto the most appropriate English and maths course; GCSE or functional skills. Functional skills are offered over 5 levels; E1, E2, E3, L1 and L2. If you have learning difficulties/disabilities, English and maths will be a key part of your study programme. We will help and support you to develop these skills at a pace to suit your needs and abilities.
