    This programme covers a range of Livestock Production skills and related practices.

    Course Information

    • Qualification: Intermediate Apprenticeship in Agriculture (Livestock Production)
    • Course Code: E4182 / O4011
    • Start Date: 09/05/2019
    • Duration: The framework is expected to take 15 months
    • Campus: Easton, Otley
    • Entry requirements: 4 GCSE's including Maths and English A-E/9-2. Apprentices need to be employed for minimum of 30 hours a week in the industry with a contract of employment. *those with a level 2 English and/or Maths will be required to sit a BKSB assessment and interview to determine eligibility for an apprenticeship. 

    The objectives of the course are to ensure the development of practical skills, related background knowledge including health and safety issues and procedures. It is suitable for those seeking or employed in their first role within the Livestock industry.

    Programme Structure

    The apprenticeship framework is made up of different nationally recognised qualifications. Including:

    • Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Agriculture (Livestock Production)
    • Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths
    • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
    • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
    • First Aid & 1 other additional employment related qualification

    Course Content 

    • Prepare feed and water supplies
    • Select and transfer livestock
    • Prepare, establish & maintain livestock accommodation
    • Deliver basic livestock treatments
    • Establish and maintain animal health, welfare & husbandry
    • Monitor and maintain health and safety


    One week block release in college six times a year, supported with assessment in the workplace

    Apprentices successfully completing the Intermediate Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Agriculture or other Further Education courses.

    Applications for Further Education full time, access to HE, apprenticeships and part time courses are made online.     Students aged 19 ( as of 31 August) and above can study any of our part time or short courses as well as our Access to Higher Education and Higher Education programme. Some of floristry, horticulture and arboriculture courses may also be available to adult learners. Please contact the College Admissions Team for more information, 08000 224556. Adult learning

    Yes, you can speak to the College Admissions Team on 08000 224556 who can provide general course choice advice and guidance or you can drop in to one of our Course Advice Days.

    Course Advice Days are normally held on Saturday morning's from 9am-12pm. They provide an excellent opportunity to speak to course tutors, find out more about the courses we offer, have a tour of the facilities and speak to Student Services about any non academic questions like transport or bursaries. Dates are advertised on our website. Course Advice Day

    We also have our campus open days, known as a 'Big Day Out' which take place in the summer term. Both campuses and facilities are available for you to explore, speak to tutors and students, watch demonstrations and have a go at activities. If you like what you see you can also make an application on the day. Details on the Big Day Out will be advertised on our website nearer the time

    The College Admissions Team will send out letters to all students aged 19 and over, on relevant courses, providing all the information needed from Easton & Otley College to enable you to make an online application with Student Finance England. These letters will be sent out during the summer term.

    Applications for the college bursary are made online. You should make sure that you read the guidance notes prior to making an application to ensure that you are eligible. Further information can be found on Financial Support

    For students resident in England and aged 18 and under on 31 August, before they are due to start their course in September, then your full time course fees are fully funded.
