The PGCE / Cert Ed we offer is validated by the University of Huddersfield and is a professional qualification for people teaching in the lifelong learning sector. This means those teaching in the following environments; further education colleges, sixth form colleges, adult education, offender learning, private training and a wide range of other training and educational settings in the post compulsory sector.

The Programme

The PGCE is available to graduates and the Certificate in Education is open to non-graduates with appropriate vocational qualifications. The course can be studied in-service (2 years part-time).

The in-service course is two years part-time and will interest teachers and trainers who are already in full or part-time employment in the education sector. Attendance on the in-service course is one half day per week.

There are three routes you can select from:

  • Professional Graduate Certificate in Education for trainees with a UK degree or equivalent and a level 3 qualification in the subject they wish to / currently teach
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education offers 60 master’s level credits to trainees who have at least a 2:2 in a UK degree or equivalent and a level 3 qualification in the subject they wish to / currently teach
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Advanced PGCE) offers 120 master’s level credits to trainees who have at least a 2:2 in a UK degree or equivalent and a level 3 qualification in the subject they wish to / currently teach
