Motor Vehicle Engineering

Are you into cars and motorbikes? Now it’s time to upgrade your hobby to a fulfilling career. There are 37m vehicles on UK roads – and they all need regular servicing. Learn to identify and fix mechanical faults – then find your part in this £12bn industry.

Would you like a job working with cars and other vehicles? You can choose from over 150 trades in the motor industry. These range from mechanics and fitters, to welders and electricians. Or maybe you’d prefer a sales or management role. You could even become a self-employed engineer running your own garage or similar business. How far you go is up to you. Remember: when you work on someone’s car or motorbike – you become responsible for their future safety.

That’s why these jobs are only open to people with the right skills and commitment. However, if you have the enthusiasm, we’ll help you get the professional qualifications. Our three diplomas in motor vehicle engineering come with full industry recognition. IMI Awards Ltd (IMIAL) designs and awards them. IMIAL is part of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), who sets, upholds and promotes professional standards across the automotive industry. Each level builds on skills learnt on the previous course. We advise students to progress through all three courses in turn. But we can make exceptions if you have relevant A-levels or appropriate work experience.
