English & Maths

All of our courses include English and maths; this can be embedded i.e. the English and maths skills required to be successful on the course. If you are under the age of 19 and do not have a GCSE C* grade, or higher, in English and/or maths you must continue to study these subjects until you achieve a minimum of a C grade or reach the age of 19. The college encourages all students who do not have a grade C in English and maths, regardless of their age, to continue developing their English and/or maths skills until they achieve the C grade.

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment for English and maths, and a diagnostic assessment which will be reassessed at least three times a year. This will enable us to enrol you onto the most appropriate English and maths course; GCSE or functional skills. Functional skills are offered over 5 levels; E1, E2, E3, L1 and L2. If you have learning difficulties/disabilities, English and maths will be a key part of your study programme. We will help and support you to develop these skills at a pace to suit your needs and abilities.

Congratulations to Poppy Whiting
