We know how important good, homecooked food is for the wellbeing of active young people. Feedback from our students contributes to the variety of food available at very reasonable prices. At Otley Campus we have two outlets which serve home cooked traditional hot meals together with a ‘grab and go’ option. The salad bar is a very popular choice in the Refectory. All dietary requirements are dealt with by our friendly, helpful staff. Our students requested a late breakfast option to be available at morning break - so if you miss breakfast, you need not go hungry. There is also a Coffee Shop which serves sandwiches, baguettes/paninis, snacks and drinks. The chocolate chip cookie is very popular with staff, too!
Higher Education Centre
The Otley Campus has its own dedicated Higher Education Centre for the exclusive use of students studying on undergraduate programmes. Each course has its own base room for lectures with a combined lecture room for larger groups. Within the centre there is also a dedicated study room providing both PC and wireless network access for students to undertake self-directed study and research. The College utilises a Virtual Learning Environment to support, communicate and enhance learning opportunities for all students. In addition the HE Centre houses the Cranbrook Collection, given to the College in January 2013 by Lord Cranbrook, his journal collection demonstrating research developments in the late 20th Century in the fields of ecology, conservation, animal behaviour and zoology. This is an exclusive source available to all HE students.
The Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provides library and computing facilities to the students and staff within a supportive learning environment. In the LRC you’ll find books, journals, DVDs and electronic resources that are updated regularly and reflect the curriculum. The LRC also provides PCs, study spaces, wireless network access and friendly and experienced staff who will help you get the most out of our resources.
The Otley Campus has its own dedicated Design Studio for the sole use of students studying Landscape and Garden Design. Light and airy it is an industry standard facility with a suite of fourteen drawing tables allowing students to develop their technical drawing skills in a professional environment. In addition, the Design Studio also has wireless network access to facilitate the use of CAD software as well as other online resources.
Animal Care Unit
The Bob Feltwell Centre, the new animal care unit, was opened in March 2014 by Anthony Tropeano, the Director of Colchester Zoo. This facility provides a grooming parlour, a veterinary room, a nocturnal room housing a range of small animals, including small mammals and reptiles. Students have access to the unit as part of the practical element for the Animal Husbandry module. In addition students can apply to work in the unit as a work experience placement assisting with the day to day operations and management.
The Otley Campus has a dedicated HE Support Tutor who works alongside the Student Services team to provide high quality support for students offering independent information, advice and guidance. The HE Support Tutor is based within the HE Centre and combines the role of Student Support Advisor and Personal Tutor enabling students to have a service dedicated to those studying at undergraduate level. The Careers Guidance Advisor can offer advice and guidance on applying for work and work placements and further study. Student Services, situated near reception, also offers support for personal, health and welfare issues as well as with any transport queries. The campus also has a counselling service on site. Student Services was accredited with the matrix quality standard for excellence for their information, advice and guidance to students.
